Are you ready to ditch your 8-5, have the freedom to determine you’re own schedule, + work from wherever you want? (Sounds like a dream right!?) Working from home definitely has it’s perks. I love having the freedom to take breaks to take June, our pup, on walks + grab lunch with clients. But, working from home requires a lot of self-discipline. Over time, I’ve learned to incorporate several best practices into my work-from-home lifestyle that I’m sharing with my fellow fempreneurs!
ESTABLISH A CLEAN, GO-TO SPACE.
This may sounds simple, but having a dedicated home office or go-to work place will train your mind to be in that work/productive mindset. Another must for me is that my office is clean + simplistic! Clutter detracts from my creativity + can cause my mind to stray from what I’m working on.
CREATE A DAILY TO-DO LIST, EVEN ON THE DAYS WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE YOU DON’T NEED ONE.
This has quickly become one of my favorite practices. When I sit down at my desk each morning, I begin my day by writing out a to-do list of all of things I would like to complete that day. It feels great to mark each item off my list throughout my day but also keeps me on track. On days where I create a to-do list, I am always much more productive!
FIND OR CREATE A KICK ASS PLAYLIST!
Music is a must for me during my work day. It keeps my energy high + my mind focused on what’s in front of me. It also passes my day quickly so that by the end of the day, I’m extremely happy with everything I’ve accomplished! Each month, I create an album of the latest hits that I’m listening to. INVEST IN SOME COMFY, STYLISH WORKOUT CLOTHES, GIRL.
This may seem unnecessary to some, but when you feel good, you produce good work. On days when I’m working from my home office, I love to rock a cute workout outfit. When I first wake up, I do my hair + makeup, start my coffee machine, + take June for good walk around our neighborhood. I used to be that digital nomad girl working from home in my pjs. Since then, I’ve learned that I am way more productive when I actually get ready in the morning, just like I’m going somewhere. If you are skeptical, I encourage you to commit to get ready each morning for a week straight and see how it affects your productivity!
If you are looking for comfy, stylish workout clothes to wear on your at-home boss babe days, I’ve been loving the sets from Calia by Carrie Underwood. I can almost always find Calia pieces on sale at our local Dick’s Sporting Goods. If I find something that I love in person, I’ll order more colors or similar styles from the Calia website.
PLAN SOCIAL MEDIA TIME.
As a small business owner, it’s easy to feel the pressure to be on social media 24/7. With so many scheduling apps today, it’s possible to work smarter instead of harder when managing your business’s social media. Each month, I take a couple days to plan + schedule out my social media. One day is spent doing a photography sesh + the other editing my favorite images, writing captions, + scheduling them out for the month.
BATCH, GIRLFRIEND, BATCH!
If you haven’t heard of the funny word batching, it refers to taking a bulk amount of time to plan + complete tasks for several weeks in advance. I have batching days each month that are spent writing TH blog posts + completely admin tasks for the month. Not only does it make you feel amazingly good when you have everything prepped + ready to go for the month, it also saves you time + headaches in the long-run! By completing these things in advance, I can commit my time + energy to client projects + know that Theory House is taken care of.
